Beyond Translation Savings: Operational efficiencies with a CCMS and DITA

Jackson describes how a team of writers transitioned from unstructured content to a component content management system (CCMS) and DITA. Along with information about the transition, she introduces the operational efficiencies that the team has realized since moving to the CCMS and DITA. For example, previously it took a writer four hours to generate a user manual; now a writer can generate a manual from the CCMS in 15 minutes, a 93% time savings. A Help system that took 40 hours to produce, now takes two hours to produce, a 95% time savings.

These time savings have been a pleasant surprise for the technical writers on the team. Content generates quickly and without errors, giving writers time to work on additional projects. Time savings for the writers equals cost savings for the company.
