Creating Silk Roads of Information within your Organization
Genghis Khan unified the silk roads under the Mongol Empire. Before unification, the fractured countries hampered trade, learning, and culture. After unification, the free flow of communication benefitted each culture by making trade the primary function. Many organizations look like the silk roads before Mongol unification: barriers to communication stifle information flows, which can result in customer documents that don’t match internal designs. In his presentation, David shows how a unified information strategy can improve the product development process as well as customer-facing documentation. He will provide practical tips for how to develop a framework for better cooperation and automation. David will provide case study evidence from his experience moving organizations from desktop publishing to structured data flows. He will explain how a 1:1 conversion to DITA did not provide the expected ROI and how the shift to data-driven methodologies simplified the process of migrating and provided sizeable ROI. He will also show you the framework he developed for NXP as an example implementation.
Meet the presenter
David Welguisz has over fifteen years in the semiconductor industry from designing computer chips, documentation, and process improvement. For the last 5 years he has focused on information process improvements. He has lead teams that have transformed documentation processes that took 8 to 12 weeks down to 5 minutes. In his latest process improvement project, the team was able to produce a 200-page technical document from design data in 24 hours that was valuable for winning new businesses. David graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2000 and a Masters of Business Administration in 2013 both from The University of Texas at Austin.
